VAT number check + Peppol status
Check whether an EU VAT number is valid in VIES, the European Commission's official register, and whether that company can receive e-invoices over Peppol. One number or a whole customer list.
What the check does
- VIES: we ask the European Commission's VAT Information Exchange System whether the number is a valid, active intra-EU VAT number, and show the registered name and address where the country provides them.
- Peppol: we look the same company up in the Peppol network (for Belgium the enterprise number 0208 and VAT 9925, for the Netherlands 9944, for Germany 9930, and so on) and show whether it can receive invoices.
- Bulk: paste up to 20 numbers, get one table, download it as CSV.
Why both at once
Before you send a B2B invoice you need two things right: the customer's VAT number (for reverse charge and intra-EU supplies, a valid VIES number is a condition) and their e-invoicing address. In Belgium B2B e-invoices go over Peppol since 1 January 2026, so a valid VAT number without a Peppol registration means you can't deliver the invoice the standard way.

Questions
Is a VIES check legal proof?
It is the official EU check and the usual evidence for intra-EU supplies, but national rules differ. In Germany, for example, the BZSt's qualified confirmation is the formal route. Keep a record of when you checked.
Why is the name empty for German numbers?
Germany does not share name and address through VIES. The check still tells you whether the number is valid.
Do you store the numbers?
No. Numbers are sent to VIES and the Peppol directory to look them up; results are held in memory for at most an hour to avoid repeat queries, never written to disk.
Is there a limit?
Up to 20 numbers per check and 10 checks per hour per network, to stay within VIES's fair-use limits.
