XRechnung 4.0: what changes and when

In short: nothing changes for your invoices now. XRechnung 3.0 stays in force until at least 31 July 2027. XRechnung 4.0 is expected as a finished bundle in spring 2027. As of 21 October 2026.

The timeline

• XRechnung 3.0 (currently 3.0.2) stays in force until at least 31 July 2027. There was no normative release in summer 2026, so there is no version change.
• September 2026: the pre-release of the XRechnung 4.0 specification was published. It is for getting familiar and planning, not for production.
• Spring 2027 (expected): the final XRechnung 4.0 is published in a bundle with the technical components (validator configuration, Schematron).

What it means for you

Senders: keep creating XRechnung 3.0. You only need to move to 4.0 once it comes into force; KoSIT announces the date with the final bundle. Ask your software provider when they will support 4.0.

Receivers: nothing to do. Keep checking incoming invoices as before.
