Registering on Peppol in Belgium: step by step
Since 1 January 2026, VAT-registered businesses in Belgium must be able to send and receive e-invoices via Peppol. Here's how to check whether you're already on Peppol, and how to register if you're not.
What does 'being on Peppol' mean?
Your Peppol ID, usually 0208: followed by your enterprise number (e.g. 0208:0123456749), is connected to the Peppol network by an access point. Anyone sending you an invoice looks up that ID, and their access point delivers it to yours.
Step 1: check whether you're already registered
Many accounting and invoicing tools have already registered you automatically. Check with our free Peppol lookup by entering your VAT or enterprise number. If it says "receives invoices", you're ready to receive. For your customer list, use the bulk Peppol check.
Step 2: choose an access point
Registration always goes through a Peppol access point (a certified provider). Usually that's the accounting or invoicing software you already use; otherwise pick a standalone provider. Note that the government platform Hermes was shut down at the end of 2025, so you need a provider from the market.
Step 3: register under your enterprise number
Your provider registers you under scheme 0208 (enterprise number), often also under 9925 (VAT number), so everyone can find you. Then check again with the Peppol lookup.
Pitfall: only one provider per ID
For receiving, a Peppol ID can be registered with only one access point. If you switch providers or registration fails, your previous provider must deregister you first (or give you a migration key). Otherwise invoices keep arriving at the old access point.
