Convert a PDF invoice to XRechnung

Upload your PDF invoice: we copy seller and buyer, IBAN, VAT IDs, invoice number, dates and totals into our form. You check everything, add the lines and download an XRechnung that was checked against the official rules first. Free, no sign-up.

Why a PDF isn't enough

An e-invoice is structured data following EN 16931, such as XRechnung or ZUGFeRD (EN 16931 profile or higher). A PDF by email no longer counts. In Germany every business must be able to receive e-invoices since 2025; sending becomes mandatory in 2027 (over €800,000 prior-year turnover) and 2028 (everyone). See the deadlines by country.

How it works

  1. Open Create an e-invoice and click Choose PDF at the top.
  2. We read the PDF's text and take over what we can recognise reliably: seller and buyer name and address (from the sender line or address block), IBAN (valid check digits only), BIC, your and your customer's VAT IDs, invoice number, issue and due date, email, phone, Leitweg-ID, net total and VAT rate. For Belgian enterprise numbers we also fill in the Peppol ID.
  3. You check the details, fill in anything missing plus a contact person and, if you like, the individual lines (we take over lines when quantity × price checks out and they add up to the net total; otherwise one line with the net total).
  4. Pick a format (XRechnung UBL or CII, ZUGFeRD PDF, Peppol) and download. Every file is validated with the official rules first; if something is wrong you see the rule and a plain explanation.

What we leave to you

We only take over invoice lines we can recalculate: quantity × unit price = line amount, and all lines together = net total. If that doesn't add up, we create one line with the net total instead of guessing. Addresses are only read from common layouts; anything we can't recognise for sure stays empty. Scanned PDFs have no readable text, so you fill in the form by hand. If your PDF already contains a ZUGFeRD invoice, we tell you instead of creating a second one.

Privacy

The PDF is read in memory on our server in the EU and discarded immediately. We store neither the PDF nor the invoice data.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. The form, the PDF import and the validation are free and need no account, with a fair-use limit of 40 invoices per hour per IP address.

Can't you just convert the PDF to XML?

An XRechnung needs data that can't be read reliably from a PDF, such as the buyer's exact address or the VAT category of each line. So we only take the values we can recognise for sure, and you check the rest in the form.
