Peppol e-invoices from Stripe
Since 1 January 2026, invoices between Belgian businesses must be structured e-invoices, sent over Peppol by default. Stripe produces PDFs. Here is how every Stripe invoice to a Belgian customer becomes a valid Peppol invoice.
Belgium's rules in short
- Since 1 January 2026, B2B invoices between VAT-registered businesses established in Belgium must be structured e-invoices. The default format and network is Peppol BIS Billing 3.0.
- Fines for non-compliance are €1,500, then €3,000, then €5,000 for repeated infringements.
- From 2028, Belgium plans near real-time e-reporting of invoice data to the tax authority (draft law).
A PDF by email, including Stripe's invoice PDF, does not satisfy the mandate. See the deadlines by country.
Does Stripe send Peppol invoices?
Not by itself. Stripe creates invoice records and PDFs. As Stripe's documentation explains, e-invoicing runs through an app from the Stripe App Marketplace or your own integration with a Peppol access point.
Peppol for Stripe, automatically
With Invoiceer from the Stripe App Marketplace, every invoice you finalize for a Belgian customer becomes a Peppol BIS 3.0 e-invoice within seconds. It is validated against the official OpenPeppol and EN 16931 rules, then delivered over Peppol through our certified access point partner once you switch on sending. Credit notes too. German customers get XRechnung or ZUGFeRD from the same app. Setup guide.
Your customers' Peppol IDs
Belgian companies are usually registered on Peppol under their enterprise number, scheme 0208 (for example 0208:0123456749, the VAT number's digits). Invoiceer derives it from the customer's Belgian VAT number in Stripe, so add the VAT number as a customer tax ID before you finalize. For other customers on Peppol, add customer metadata peppol_id. Check whether a company can receive Peppol invoices with our free Peppol lookup.
